Pet Parade Day
Every spring, the town of Pine Hill holds a pet parade at the fair. Children walk around the big field with their pets while families cheer from the grass. This year, Mrs. Okafor handed out ribbons from a wooden box. She had a ribbon for every pet.
Rosa walked first with her two puppies in a red wagon. Both puppies wore tiny bows on their heads. Behind her, Jin carried a basket full of kittens. The kittens kept peeking over the edge.
Tomas led two geese on long ropes. The geese honked at every person they passed, and the crowd laughed. Next came Priya with a cage of mice. The mice twitched their noses and ran in a little wheel.
Last of all came the Lopez family with a woolly lamb on a leash. The lamb had been washed, so its feet were clean and its coat was soft. Babies in the crowd clapped their hands. By the end of the day, every ribbon was gone, and every owner went home smiling.
