Use verbs in the past, present and future.
Read the play
The Old Red Tractor
1DARIO: Grandpa, why is this old tractor in the back of the barn? It looks so sad and lonely.
2GRANDPA RUSLAN: I bought it a long time ago. I plowed the fields with it every spring. Then one cold winter, the engine stopped, and I parked it here.
3AIYANA: Now it sits under a dusty blanket. The tires look flat, and the paint peels off in little red flakes. A family of mice built a nest in the toolbox last fall.
4DARIO: (He wipes the seat with a rag.) Look! The seat shines under all that dust. We can fix this tractor!
5GRANDPA RUSLAN: Tomorrow, we will pump air into the tires. Next week, I will order a new battery from the shop in town.
6AIYANA: And I will paint it bright red. Then we will drive it slowly around the apple trees.
7DARIO: Grandpa, you smiled just now. You look happy.
8GRANDPA RUSLAN: I am happy. Long ago, I worked on this tractor alone. This time, my grandchildren help me. Together, we will make this old tractor run again.
