Three Little Lasagnas

On a rainy Saturday, Grandpa Marcel had an idea. "Today, each of my grandchildren will build a lasagna," he said. He gave Elin, Fitz and Wim each a small pan.

Grandpa set out cooked noodles, tomato sauce, spinach and two kinds of cheese. Elin worked slowly. She spread the sauce carefully and laid each noodle straight. Fitz worked quickly. His noodles were crooked, but his pan held more cheese than Elin's pan.

Wim was the youngest cousin, so his hands were the smallest. He wanted to make the tallest lasagna in the kitchen. He stacked six thin layers, one on top of the other. His lasagna was taller than Fitz's, and it was much taller than Elin's.

Grandpa baked all three pans in the oven. Soon the kitchen smelled wonderful. Fitz's lasagna bubbled more loudly than the others. Elin's looked the neatest. Wim's leaned a little to one side.

At dinner, everyone tasted all three. "Which one is the best?" Fitz asked. Grandpa smiled. "Elin's is the neatest, Wim's is the tallest, and yours is the cheesiest," he said. "But they are all delicious."
