Read the story
Read about how Rosa and Dev check their poster. Then answer the questions.
The Bracelet Club Poster
1Rosa and her friend Dev started a friendship bracelet club at their school. The club met in the art room every Tuesday after lunch. To find new members, they decided to make a big poster for the hallway.
2Dev wrote the words in purple marker, and Rosa drew colorful beads around the edges. When they finished, Rosa read the poster out loud. She stopped at the very first line. “Dev, is bracelet really spelled with an s?” she asked. Dev shrugged. “I'm not sure,” he said.
3Their art teacher, Ms. Abara, handed them a dictionary. “Let's check,” she said. She pointed to the two guide words at the top of a page. “Your word is on the page where it fits between the guide words in ABC order,” she explained.
4Dev turned to the pages that begin with b. He found the page with the guide words bead and braid, and there was the word. Bracelet is spelled with a c, not an s. Next, Dev looked up the word nots on the n pages, but he could not find it anywhere. Ms. Abara gave him a hint. “Some words begin with a letter you cannot hear,” she said. Dev tried kn, and he found knot right away.
5Rosa and Dev fixed every word that was spelled wrong. Then they hung the poster near the front office. By Friday, six new students had signed up for the club.
