Kite Day at Maple Hill

Every spring, the students at Maple Hill School have a kite day. Mrs. Ortiz brings a big bag of string, and the children bring their own kites. Everyone meets on the hill behind the school.

Dev's kite is bright orange. It has a long tail made of cloth scraps. Nina and Ben hold their kites high and run across the grass. A strong wind lifts the kites into the sky.

The kites dip and swirl above the field. Lena watches her kite climb, but it tangles in a tree. She calls for help, and Mr. Park walks over. He pulls the kite free, and Lena thanks him with a big smile.

At the end of the day, the class sits together on the hill. The children eat apples and talk about their favorite kites. Dev thinks his orange kite is the best one. Nina and Ben disagree, because they like their own kites more. Everyone agrees that kite day is the best day of the spring.
