Room 8 Vehicle Watch
Our class, Room 8, wanted to find out what kinds of vehicles pass our school on Maple Street. For three mornings, we watched from our classroom window for ten minutes. Ms. Reyes said, "If we watch for the same amount of time each day, we can compare the days."
Everyone had a job. Ana counted the cars. Jun counted the trucks and buses. Devi wrote the numbers in our notebook. Leo watched the clock and told us when ten minutes were up.
Monday: We saw 14 cars, 2 trucks, and 1 bus. One truck was carrying logs.
Tuesday: We saw 9 cars, 4 trucks, and 1 bus. It was raining, and most cars had their wipers on.
Wednesday: We saw 11 cars, 2 trucks, 1 bus, and 1 fire truck. The fire truck did not have its siren on.
On Thursday, we read our notes together. Ms. Reyes said, "Good researchers write down only what they see. Now we can use our notes to write a class report."
