Team Blue's Lifeguard Research
1Team Blue is writing a page about lifeguards for our class book, Jobs in Our Town. First, we wrote three questions. Then we looked for answers in a library book, on a poster at the town pool, and in an interview with Ms. Ortiz, a lifeguard at the pool.
2Question 1: What does a lifeguard do?
The library book says lifeguards help keep swimmers safe. They help anyone who is in trouble in the water. Ms. Ortiz told us, "I watch the water the whole time I am on duty."
3Question 2: Why do lifeguards sit in tall chairs?
Ms. Ortiz said a tall chair helps her see the whole pool. The library book says the same thing.
4Question 3: What does a lifeguard carry?
The poster at the pool shows a lifeguard with a whistle and a red rescue tube. The library book says a swimmer in trouble can hold on to a rescue tube and float.
5Then Team Blue had a new question: How do people learn to be lifeguards? None of our sources answered it, so Kenji will look for another book next week.
