The Feeder Corner Model
At a backyard feeder corner, Noor and Mateo make a model. Sun Patch has air, damp soil, daylight, and room for roots. Seed Corner has air, seeds, a water cup, and a thick hedge. A sunflower card lists air, water, daylight, soil, and room for roots. A goldfinch card lists air, food, water, and shelter.
First, the cards fit their spots. Then the children cover Sun Patch with a roof and test again. The sunflower card loses one check. They also take away the hedge from Seed Corner. The goldfinch card loses one check. They compare the model before making a new plan.
