Waffle Morning

On Saturday, Kofi woke up early and ran into the kitchen. Grandma Ama was already there. She tied on her striped apron and smiled at him. "Today we will make waffles together," she said.

Kofi measured the flour and poured it into a big bowl. Grandma cracked two eggs, and Kofi stirred the batter with a wooden spoon. The batter was thick and sweet. A spoonful of batter dropped on the floor, but Grandma only laughed and wiped it up.

Next, Grandma heated the waffle iron. Kofi carried the bowl to the counter very carefully. The first waffle came out golden and crisp, and the kitchen smelled like warm butter. Kofi sprinkled berries on top of each waffle.

Soon Kofi's little sister, Efua, came downstairs in her pajamas. She sat at the table and ate two waffles. Grandma drank her tea and told stories about cooking with her own grandmother. Kofi thought it was the best Saturday of the year.
