Nora's Fix-It Journal

Monday: Our kitchen faucet dripped all night. Drip, drip, drip! The sound kept me awake. In the morning, Dad looked under the sink. He said that a small rubber part called a washer was probably worn out.

Tuesday: After school, Dad and I went to the hardware store. We bought a pack of new washers. The washers were tiny and round. Dad paid at the counter, and I carried the little bag home.

Wednesday: Today we fixed the faucet! First, Dad shut off the water, and I held the flashlight. He took the handle apart with a wrench. I found the old washer. It was flat and cracked. Dad slipped a new washer into place, and we put the handle back together.

Then I turned the water on. We watched the faucet and waited. No more drips! Dad gave me a high five. I learned that a tiny part can make a big difference. Now the kitchen is quiet at night.
