A Picnic by the Creek

On Saturday, Amara's family packed a picnic. Amara carried the blanket, and her brother Theo carried the basket. The sun was bright, so they wore their hats. They walked to the creek behind their house. Tall grass grew along the water, and the air smelled sweet.

Theo spread out the blanket while Amara set out the food. There were cheese sandwiches, sliced pears, and a jar of lemonade. Amara wanted a pear, but Theo wanted a sandwich first. Dad handed them each a napkin. The lemonade was cold and sweet. A few ducks paddled near the bank.

Soon, a few raindrops fell. Dad opened a big umbrella, and everyone squeezed underneath. The family ate quickly because the wind was growing stronger. Nobody minded the weather. The wind made the leaves shake.

When the rain stopped, a rainbow stretched over the creek. Amara pointed at it. Theo grinned. The colors were bright against the gray clouds. They packed the basket, and they walked home together. Everyone agreed it was a great picnic.
