The Turtle on the Trail

On Sunday morning, Marcus and his sister Rosa walked to Turtle Pond. They planned to help the park ranger pick up litter along the path, but the ranger was late. While they waited, Marcus saw something moving slowly on the trail.

It was a small turtle with a round brown shell! The turtle was walking toward the road, so the children had to act fast. Rosa wanted to carry it to the water, yet Marcus remembered the ranger's rule. People should not pick up a wild animal unless a grown-up says it is safe.

Marcus stood in front of the turtle, and Rosa waved at the bikes on the path. The riders slowed down until the turtle was safe. At last, the ranger arrived. She smiled because the children had been so careful. Next, she carried the turtle to the edge of the pond.

Rosa and Marcus finished their work after the turtle slid into the water. They filled three bags with litter, and the path looked clean. If they return next Sunday, they will look for the turtle.
