Shearing Day

Every spring, Uncle Teo shears his sheep. This year, Wren and her cousin Bashir wanted to help, so they woke up early. The sheep were waiting in a small pen behind the barn.

Uncle Teo held the first sheep gently because it was nervous. He moved the clippers slowly, and the thick wool came off in one big piece. Wren thought it looked like a fluffy rug.

Bashir wanted to try the clippers, but Uncle Teo shook his head. "You can roll the wool instead," he said. Bashir rolled each fleece carefully while Wren swept the floor.

After the last sheep was done, the pen was full of skinny sheep. They looked cold, but Uncle Teo said their wool would grow back before winter. "We will keep one fleece for Grandma," he said. "She can spin it into yarn."

Before they went home, Wren and Bashir petted the sheep one more time. The animals seemed lighter, and they trotted around the pen happily.
