Comic Club Notes

1Every Thursday, the Comic Club meets in the art room. This month, Dev, Wren and Marisol are making a comic about a hopeful little turtle. The turtle is unnamed for now, because the club wants to vote on a name next week.

2In the first panel, the turtle crawls slowly along a sunny riverbank. In the second panel, it slips into the water and becomes a quick swimmer. Wren colored the river carefully with three shades of blue.

3Marisol wanted the turtle to be fearless from the start, but Dev had another idea. He thought the turtle should feel nervous at first and grow braver page by page. The club agreed that this was a useful idea.

4In the last panel, the turtle helps a lost duckling paddle home to its family. The duckling’s mother quacks with happiness, and the turtle smiles. At the bottom of the page, Wren wrote one word in big letters: Friendship.

Rules for adding word parts
1. A prefix does not change the base word: un + lock = unlock.
2. Keep the silent e when the suffix starts with a consonant: nice + ly = nicely.
3. If a word ends in a consonant and y, change the y to i: easy + ly = easily. If a vowel comes just before the y, keep the y: play + er = player.
4. If a short word ends in one vowel and one consonant, double the last letter before a suffix that starts with a vowel: sun + y = sunny.
