Ruby's Birthday Clue Hunt
Ruby woke up early on her ninth birthday. Before she could even find her slippers, she spotted a note from her big brother, Max, taped to her bedroom door. It said, "Your present is hidden. Follow the clues! Clue 1: Look beneath the table where you eat breakfast."
Ruby hurried to the kitchen and crawled under the table. A second note was taped to the bottom of it. "Clue 2: Look between the two tall bookshelves in the living room."
Max sat on the couch and tried not to laugh while Ruby searched the living room. Soon she found a folded paper squeezed between the shelves. "Clue 3: Go outside and look behind the blue flowerpot beside the front steps."
After she put on her shoes, Ruby raced outside. She found a small key and one last note hidden behind the flowerpot. "Clue 4: This key opens the box on the shelf above your bed."
Finally, Ruby climbed onto a stool and reached the shelf above her bed. She turned the key, and the lid popped open. Inside the box were a new sketchbook and a set of colored pencils. Ruby hugged Max. "That was the best birthday hunt ever!"
