Tree Doctors: Revising and Editing Maya's Report

Use a partner's notes to make a report clearer and correct.

Read the first draft

Maya wrote a report about a job for her class. This is her first draft. It has some mistakes. Her partner, Eli, read it and wrote notes to help her make it better.

Tree Doctors (Maya's First Draft)

1Do you know who takes care of the trees in a town? An arborist is a person who cares for trees. Some people call arborists tree doctors. Trees give us shade and homes for birds, so they need good care.

2Arborists trim branches that are dead or too close to power lines. They climb trees with ropes and a harness. they always wear a helmet to protect there heads. My brother has a red helmet for riding his scooter.

3Arborists use many tools. They use saws to cut branches. Some arborists ride up high in a bucket on a big truck. This helps them reach branches at the top of tall trees.

4Arborists also check trees for sickness. They look at the leaves. They look at the bark. They look for holes made by insects. If a tree is sick, they try to help it get better.

5Arborists do a really good job. They keep trees healthy and keep people safe.
