The Night the Streetlight Blinked

Omar lives on Maple Street. Every evening at five o'clock, the old streetlight in front of his house turns on with a soft hum. Omar likes to watch it from his window while he eats dinner.

One winter evening, the light blinked twice and then went dark. Just then, Omar's little sister Lila was walking home from her piano class. She stopped at the corner because the sidewalk ahead looked too dark.

From his window, Omar saw Lila standing at the corner. He grabbed a flashlight and ran outside. "Follow my light!" he called. Omar held the flashlight high and walked beside Lila all the way to their front door.

The next morning, a worker in a yellow truck fixed the streetlight. Omar waved at the worker from the sidewalk. That evening at five o'clock, the light turned on with its soft hum, and Omar smiled.
