The Pinecone Hike

1We tiptoe up the hillside trail
With Grandpa and my yellow pail.
The sunshine peeks through cedar trees.
A daisy bobs in the cool breeze.

2I find a pinecone, brown and wide,
An acorn tucked close by its side.
I drop them in my pail with care,
Then stop to sniff the piney air.

3Down by the creek, we dip our feet.
The water's cold, the air is sweet.
A beaver swims by with a stick.
A tadpole wiggles, small and quick.

4A toadstool grows beside a log,
A tiny hat for a tiny frog.
An eagle circles in the sky.
A raven calls from a treetop high.

5At home, I line up all I found:
My pinecone and my acorn, round.
I hang my pail up on its nail
And daydream of the hillside trail.
