Pie Night with Aunt Michelle

My Aunt Michelle is a chef. She went to a cooking school a long time ago, and she loves to cook so much! On Friday, she came to our house to bake a cherry pie with me. She tied on her apron and handed me one too.

First, we pulled the stems off a big bowl of cherries. Then Aunt Michelle handed me a butter knife and let me chop the butter for the crust. "A good chef keeps the butter cold," she said.

We rolled the dough and pressed it into the pan. I poured in the cherries and added a pinch of sugar. Aunt Michelle cut a star in the top crust. Then Aunt Michelle put on oven mitts and slid the pie into the oven.

While the pie baked, my stomach growled. "Wait a little longer, Josie," Aunt Michelle said with a laugh. At last, the timer rang. I let out a happy shriek.

Mom, Dad and my brother came to the table. Aunt Michelle cut the pie, and each of us got a big piece. It was rich and sweet. "You are a real chef now," she told me.
