Ezra's New Flute
Ezra got a new flute for his birthday. It was shiny and silver, with rows of little keys. He could not wait to play it.
Each day after school, Ezra sat on his bed to practice. At first, his flute made a loud squeak. "That sounds like a mouse!" said his big sister, Tess. Ezra frowned, but he did not quit.
He blew softly across the hole. He moved his fingers slowly. Then he made a low sound that was soft and sweet. Ezra grinned and drew a star on his practice chart.
On Friday night, Ezra played a song for his family. He stood up tall and took a deep breath. The music floated through the room like a soft breeze. When he was done, Tess clapped and shouted, "Hooray!" Ezra felt full of joy.
