All About Bridges
Bridges help people get across rivers, roads, and deep valleys. A bridge is a path that is built over something in the way. In this report, you will learn about two kinds of bridges.
One kind is the beam bridge. A beam is a long, strong bar. A beam bridge is flat across the top, and it rests on supports that hold it up. Many small bridges over streams are beam bridges.
Another kind is the arch bridge. An arch is a curved shape, like half of a circle. The curve helps hold up the bridge. For a very long time, people have built arch bridges out of stone.
Now you know about two kinds of bridges. Bridges are important because they connect places and help people travel.
