Smoke Alarms
A smoke alarm is a small machine in a home. It has one big job. When it senses smoke, it beeps very loudly. The loud beep tells everyone to get out fast.
Smoke rises, so smoke alarms go up high. They are put on the ceiling or high on a wall. Many homes have one near the bedrooms.
Grown-ups check smoke alarms to make sure they work. They press the test button to hear the beep. A short chirp, again and again, may mean the alarm needs a new battery.
Families can make a plan, too. They pick a meeting spot outside, like a big tree. If the alarm beeps, everyone gets out and meets there.
