Pineapples

A pineapple is a sweet fruit. Some people think pineapples grow on trees, but they do not. A pineapple grows on a short plant close to the ground.

The plant has long, pointy leaves. One pineapple grows in the middle of the plant. It grows slowly. A plant may take more than a year to make one pineapple.

A pineapple has a rough, bumpy skin. Inside, most pineapples are yellow and juicy. On top, there is a bunch of stiff leaves called the crown.

You can grow a new plant from the crown. Twist off the top and plant it in a pot of soil. Then wait. Pineapple plants like warm, sunny places.
