All About Elephants

Elephants are the biggest animals that live on land. They have thick gray skin and big ears. They also have a long nose called a trunk.

An elephant uses its trunk in many ways. It smells things with its trunk. It picks up grass and leaves with it. It also sucks up water and squirts the water into its mouth.

Elephants can get hot in the sun. To cool off, they flap their big ears. They may also spray water or mud on their backs.

Elephant families live together in groups called herds. The leader is often the oldest female. A baby elephant is called a calf. The other elephants in the herd help keep the calf safe.
