The Crossing Guard

A crossing guard helps people cross the street safely. Many crossing guards work near schools. They help children cross on the way to school and on the way home.

Most crossing guards wear a bright vest. The bright color helps drivers see the guard. Many guards also carry a big stop sign.

First, the guard looks for a safe time to step out. Next, the guard walks into the street and holds up the stop sign. Then the cars stop, and the children cross. Last, the guard walks back to the sidewalk.

Many crossing guards work in the morning and in the afternoon. They work on hot days and on cold days. They help keep children safe.
