Jellyfish Drift Along

Most jellyfish live in the ocean. But a jellyfish is not a fish! It has no bones. Its body is soft and squishy, like jelly.

The top part of a jellyfish is called the bell. Long, thin parts called tentacles hang down from the bell. Many jellyfish use their tentacles to sting and catch small animals to eat.

A jellyfish can squeeze its bell to push itself along. But most of the time, it drifts. To drift means to float wherever the water moves it.

Some jellyfish can glow. They make their own light, so they shine in the dark sea.
