Gorillas
1Gorillas live in green forests in Africa. They live in groups called troops.
2A big male leads most troops. When he grows up, the hair on his back turns silver. So he is called a silverback.
3Gorillas eat mostly plants. They munch on leaves, stems and fruit.
4A baby gorilla rides on its mother. At first, it holds on to her belly. Later, it rides on her back.
5Every night, gorillas make new nests. They use leaves and branches. Some nests are in trees, and some are on the ground.
Picture 1: A gorilla family sits in the forest. The biggest gorilla has a wide patch of silver hair across his back. A mother gorilla sits next to him with a tiny baby holding on to her belly. Two young gorillas eat leaves nearby.
Picture 2: A gorilla bends leafy branches down and presses them into a round bed on the ground.
Picture 3: A mother gorilla walks on her hands and feet. She leans on the knuckles of her hands. A young gorilla rides on her back.
Caption under Picture 3: Gorillas often walk on their hands and feet.
