Hooray for Earthworms

An earthworm has no legs and no eyes. It may not look like much. But earthworms do a lot of good!

One reason is that worm tunnels help plants. Worms dig through the dirt as they move. The tunnels let air and water reach plant roots.

Another reason is that worms make the soil rich. They eat dead leaves and bits of old plants. The waste they leave behind helps plants grow.

The last reason is that worms are food for other animals. Robins, toads and moles all eat worms. So the next time you see a worm, think of all the good it does!
