The Museum Test

A science museum has an outdoor gear puzzle. Its puzzle mat gets warm in sunlight. Staff test roofs over two matching paper mats. Both mats start equally warm. Roof A has gaps. Sunlight makes bright stripes on its mat. Roof B is solid. Its whole mat is in shadow. Both roofs stay up. After eight minutes in the same sunny place, an adult measures the mats. The mat under B is less warm than the mat under A.

1.
