Wind News for the Mountain Story Walk

Use a weather table to plan a safer day.

Before the Walk

Listen to the story. Read the forecast table with a grown-up.

Stories Along the Trail

A mountain trail has story pages on signs. Ellis and Grandma plan to walk there after lunch. This morning, they are inside the solid trail lodge. The air outside is calm. A ranger shows them a weather forecast. It tells what the weather may be like later. The ranger can also put story pages inside the lodge for visitors to read.

Today's Forecast
Time of day | Expected weather
Morning | Light wind
Afternoon | Very strong wind
Evening | Light wind
Wind safety: Very strong wind can break tree branches. Before it arrives, go inside a solid building with a grown-up. Stay away from windows. An open picnic shelter does not protect people from flying branches.
