The Backyard Campout
Last Saturday, Jonah and his cousin Priya decided to have a campout in the backyard. First, they carried the tent out of the garage and spread it flat on the grass. Next, they pushed the poles through the sleeves and stood the tent up. It wobbled for a moment, and then it stayed standing.
After the tent was ready, the cousins rolled out their sleeping bags and lined up two flashlights. A little later, Jonah's dad made hot chocolate and brought it outside. They sat on a blanket and sipped it slowly while the sky turned orange and then pink.
When it got dark, the two friends crawled into the tent. Soon, Priya began to tell a silly story about a sleepy giraffe. Before the story was over, Jonah had fallen asleep.
The next morning, a bird chirped loudly outside the tent. Jonah blinked and peeked through the zipper. The grass was wet, and the air smelled fresh. Finally, the cousins stretched, crawled out, and went inside for pancakes.
