Amazing Octopuses

Have you ever seen an octopus? An octopus is a sea animal with a soft body and eight long arms. It has no bones at all. Octopuses have some surprising ways to find food and stay safe in the ocean.

First, an octopus uses its arms in many ways. Each arm is covered with round suckers. The suckers help the octopus hold on to rocks and grab crabs and clams to eat. Because it has no bones, an octopus can also squeeze through very small cracks and holes.

Next, an octopus can change the color of its skin. In just a moment, it can blend in with the rocks, sand or seaweed around it. This helps it hide from animals that want to eat it. It also helps the octopus sneak up on its own food.

Finally, an octopus has a trick for when an enemy comes too close. It squirts a cloud of dark ink into the water. The ink makes it hard for the enemy to see. While the enemy is confused, the octopus swims quickly away.
