Hedgehog Report: Linking Words That Connect Ideas

Use also, another, and, more and but to connect facts.

Read Priya's report

Linking words such as also, another, and, more and but connect ideas. Look for them as you read.

Hedgehogs

1Hedgehogs are small animals with spines on their backs. Wild hedgehogs live in parts of Europe, Africa and Asia. Some people even keep them as pets. In this report, you will learn how hedgehogs look, what they eat and how they stay safe.

2A hedgehog's back is covered with stiff, sharp spines. It also has soft fur on its face and belly. Its legs are short, but it can move quickly. Another thing you might notice is its long, pointed nose.

3Hedgehogs eat beetles and worms. They also eat slugs and caterpillars. Hedgehogs find most of their food by smell, so they sniff along the ground as they walk. One more thing some hedgehogs eat is bird eggs that they find on the ground.

4Hedgehogs have a clever way to stay safe. When a hedgehog is scared, it curls up into a tight, prickly ball. Its spines stick out in every direction. Many animals give up instead of touching all those sharp spines.

5Now you know how hedgehogs look, what they eat and how they stay safe. These prickly little animals are full of surprises!
