Hilltop Park Needs a Splash Pad
Hilltop Park has swings, a slide, and a sandbox. On hot summer afternoons, though, the playground is almost empty. The slide gets too hot to touch, and there is no shade near the swings. I think our town should build a splash pad at Hilltop Park. A splash pad is a play area where fountains spray water up from the ground.
One reason is that a splash pad would help kids stay cool. Running through the spray feels wonderful when the sun is blazing. Instead of staying inside, kids could play outdoors all afternoon.
Another reason is that a splash pad is a safe way for young children to play in water. The water sprays from the ground and drains away, so there is no deep pool to fall into. Even toddlers can splash while their families watch from nearby benches.
A third reason is that a splash pad would bring neighbors together. Parents could chat on the benches while their kids play. Families who have never met might become friends.
