The Cloudstep Weather Journal
Use a mountain weather journal to describe typical seasonal weather.
Read the field journal
Amara kept a journal at the Cloudstep Mountain Weather Hut. She recorded the temperature and whether precipitation fell at 3 p.m. on four days in each season. Use the journal and graphs to answer the questions.
Amara's Four-Day Records
Amara chose observation days spread through each season. She used the same thermometer and recorded at the same afternoon time. In the table, “yes” means that rain, snow, or another form of precipitation fell during the observation.
Season | Temperatures on the four observation days | Precipitation days
Winter | 32°F, 38°F, 34°F, 36°F | 3 days
Spring | 46°F, 50°F, 54°F, 50°F | 2 days
Summer | 72°F, 76°F, 74°F, 78°F | 1 day
Fall | 56°F, 60°F, 64°F, 60°F | 2 days
The station team found each season's average afternoon temperature by combining its four temperatures and dividing by four. The average temperatures were 35°F in winter, 50°F in spring, 75°F in summer, and 60°F in fall.
