Grandpa Arlo's Old Red Tractor

Grandpa Arlo had an old red tractor in his shed. It had not run in years. Its paint was faded, and one tire was flat. "Let's rebuild it," Grandpa said to Delphine. "We can make it run like new."

First, they had to unbolt the engine cover. Delphine turned the wrench until each bolt came loose. Under the cover, the parts were dusty and unclean.

Some jobs were unsafe for kids, so Grandpa did those himself. Delphine read the old repair book aloud. They had to reread one page three times because the steps were so tricky.

On Saturday they repainted the tractor a bright, shiny red. Then Grandpa had to unlock his toolbox to find a new part.

At last Grandpa refilled the fuel tank and turned the key. The engine coughed, then roared! Delphine cheered, and they rode slowly around the yard.
