Read the poem. Each stanza is a group of lines with a number.

Hopscotch at Recess

1Jade and I take chalk outside.
We draw the boxes, one to nine.
We print a number in each box
and make them neat and fine.

2I toss my stone. It lands on three.
I start to hop, hop, hop.
I skip the box that has my stone.
At nine I turn and stop.

3Then Jade steps up to take her turn.
Her rock goes past the grid.
She tossed it with a bit too much,
and off the end it slid.

4We wait our turns and clap our hands
out in the warm, bright sun.
Jade wins the first game. I win next.
Hopscotch is so much fun!

5The bell rings, and we have to go.
We run back in a race.
There's chalk dust on my feet and knees,
and a big smile on my face!
