The Last Drop of Green

The art room at school. Paint jars sit on a long table. Mina is painting a dragon, and Rohan is painting a tall tree.

MINA: (tipping a jar upside down) Oh no! The green paint is all gone. My dragon needs green scales!

ROHAN: I need green for my tree's leaves. Now our pictures are ruined.

MS. ADEYEMI: Before you give up, look closely at the jars that are left. What colors do you see?

MINA: Red, blue, yellow and white. But there is no green.

ROHAN: (He dips his brush in yellow. Then he dips it in blue without washing it.) Oops! I forgot to rinse my brush. (He makes a mark on his paper.) Wait! Look at this spot. It's green!

MINA: (gasping) How did you do that?

ROHAN: I mixed the yellow with the blue.

MS. ADEYEMI: (smiling) You found the secret. Blue and yellow make green. Add more yellow for a light green, or more blue for a dark green.

MINA: (mixing on a paper plate) Light green for my dragon's belly, and dark green for his scales!

ROHAN: I wonder what red and yellow make. Let's find out!
