Drums Make Sound

Read a short article about drums in music class.

Read the article

Read the article. Stop after each paragraph and think about what you learned.

Drums Make Sound

1In music class, we play drums. A drum has a tight top called a drumhead. You can tap a drum with a stick or with your hand. When you tap, the drumhead shakes very fast. The shaking makes the sound.

2You can feel the shaking, too. Rest your fingers on the drum while a friend taps it. Your fingers will tickle!

3A hard tap makes a loud sound. A soft tap makes a quiet sound. Try both and listen.

4To stop the sound, place your hand on the drum. The drumhead stops shaking, and the drum goes quiet.
