Island Care Day
Moonfin Island has a busy boat landing and a rocky tide pool. For Island Care Day, council member Lena Cho plans a lesson at the boat landing. The island council made a law that every rider on a small motorboat must wear a life jacket. The law helps protect people if a person falls into the water. A boat operator who ignores the law may receive a ticket.
Nature guide Omar Bell plans a lesson at the tide pool. A community rule says visitors stay behind a rope and do not pick up tide-pool animals. This rule helps keep visitors safe and leaves the animals in their homes. A visitor who crosses the rope may be reminded to return and may be asked to leave. Lena and Omar choose different places, but both plans help people care for their island community.
