Rules Around the Neighborhood
On Saturday, neighbors use the Briarwood playground. A sign says, “Take turns on the slide.” Children wait behind a line while one child slides. Each child then gets a chance. Another playground rule says to put balls back in the bin. Then the area is ready for the next family.
Across the street, a crosswalk leads to the library. A community law says drivers must stop for people in the crosswalk. This helps protect people walking. One driver rolled past while Jamal was crossing. An adult reported the car. The driver could receive a ticket.
Rules and laws guide people's actions. A playground worker may remind a child who cuts in line. If the child keeps cutting, the worker may ask the child to sit out for a turn. A law can bring a ticket when it is broken.
