The Open Serving Hatch

An open serving hatch is a wide opening in a community kitchen wall. Food passes through it to people outside. Imani and her uncle can see a wide patch of sky through the hatch. They make sky records from the same spot for four days. They check in the morning, at midday, in late afternoon, and after dark. The sky is clear at these checks. Her uncle safely records the sun's place. They do not look straight at the sun.
