About this worksheet

What students practice

  • Students find the volume of a solid made of two rectangular prisms by adding the two volumes.
  • Students show that splitting a solid into two prisms in different ways gives the same total volume.
  • Students use a total volume to find a missing part and explain a common volume mistake.

How to use

Let students model the first problems with cubes or small boxes. Remind them to find each box's volume first, then add, and to write every answer in cubic units.
