About this worksheet

What students practice

  • Students sort adjectives by the kind of detail they give, such as opinion, size, color or material.
  • Students order two or three adjectives before a noun in the conventional pattern.
  • Students find and fix phrases with adjectives in the wrong order.

How to use

Read the order of adjectives in the first box aloud and say a few example phrases together, then let students work on their own. Students can say each phrase quietly to hear which order sounds right.

Kinds of adjectives

When two or more adjectives come before a noun, they usually go in this order: number → opinion → size → age → shape → color → material. Example: three pretty little blue glass jars (number, opinion, size, color, material).

Mateo and his grandmother Rosa are having a yard sale. Mateo is writing price tags for the things they are selling. Every phrase on this sheet comes from their sale.
