Window Washers in the Sky

Have you ever seen people hanging high on the side of a tall building? They are probably window washers. Window washers clean the glass on tall buildings so people inside can see out clearly. Their job takes special tools and a lot of care.

Window washers carry simple tools. They use a bucket of soapy water and a scrubber to loosen dirt. Then they pull a squeegee, a rubber blade on a handle, across the glass to wipe the water away.

Safety is the most important part of the job. Washers wear a harness that is clipped to strong ropes. Many of them ride on a platform that hangs from the roof and moves up and down. They also check the weather, because strong wind can make the work dangerous.

Washing all the windows on a very tall building is a big job. It can take a team many days. When they finish, it may soon be time to start again!
