Noor's First Swim Lesson
Noor stood at the edge of the pool and held her towel with both hands. Her stomach felt full of butterflies. The water looked deep and very blue.
"Are you ready?" asked Coach Rivera from the shallow end. "I think so," Noor whispered. She tapped her toes on the wet tile, but she did not move.
What if I sink? Noor thought. Then she noticed a boy named Ben kicking and giggling in the water. He waved at her. "Come on in!" he called. "It's only cold for a second!"
Noor took a deep breath and slid down the steps one at a time. The water was cool, and she gasped. Then her shoulders relaxed, and a small smile grew on her face. "Hey, it's not so bad," she said.
By the end of the lesson, Noor could blow bubbles and kick across the pool while holding a foam board. "Great job!" said Coach Rivera. Noor grinned from ear to ear. She could not wait to tell her family.
