Read the letter

Mateo wrote this letter to his principal. Read it and look for his reasons.

A Letter to Principal Abara

1Dear Principal Abara,
My name is Mateo, and I am in Room 14. Right now, our blacktop is a big gray space with nothing on it. I think our school should paint games on the blacktop, such as hopscotch, four square, and a number maze. I have three reasons.

2First, painted games would give everyone something to do at recess. Right now, many kids just stand by the wall and wait for the bell. With hopscotch squares and a four square court, they could jump right into a game.

3Second, painted games would help kids make new friends. A game like four square needs four players, so kids have to invite others to join. While kids wait in line for a turn, they can talk and get to know each other.

4Third, painted games would help us practice math while we play. In a number maze, you add the numbers as you hop from square to square. Counting games make math feel like fun instead of work.

5Painted games would keep kids busy, help them make friends, and let them practice math. Please think about my idea. With a little paint, recess could be the best part of the day!
Sincerely,
Mateo
