A Day at Dad's Warehouse

Hattie's dad works in a warehouse. A warehouse is a huge building where lots of boxes are kept until trucks take them away. Today, Hattie gets to visit him at work.

At the doorway, Dad hands Hattie a bright yellow vest. Inside, the shelves are taller than a house. Sunshine pours down from a skylight in the high roof.

Beep, beep! A forklift rolls past them. It has two long metal forks on the front. The forks slide under a heavy stack of boxes and lift it up to a high shelf.

Dad wears a headset so he can talk to the forklift driver. He also carries a clipboard with a checklist on it. Each time a box goes onto a truck, he makes a check mark on the list.

At lunchtime, Hattie and Dad eat sandwiches in the break room. Hattie looks out at all the cardboard boxes. "Your job is like a giant puzzle!" she says.
