Butter Test Notes

At a kitchen toast-topping station, Ada wanted liquid butter to brush onto toast. An adult started with solid butter that kept its shape on a spoon. The adult warmed it until it became liquid and flowed off the spoon. Later, the adult put it in the refrigerator. It became solid and kept its shape on the spoon again.

Next, the adult tested two holders for keeping melted butter liquid. Equal amounts of freshly melted butter went into matching cups. Each cup stood in a bowl with the same amount of water. Holder A used cool water. Holder B used warm water. The adult checked both each minute and recorded when the butter stopped flowing. The adult handled the warming equipment, warm water, and butter.
