Meet the Snakes
Snakes are reptiles. They have long bodies and no legs. Dry scales cover a snake from nose to tail. A snake flicks its tongue in and out to smell the air. Snakes often bask on rocks in the sun to warm up.

Moving Without Legs
How does a snake move with no legs? It bends its body from side to side. It pushes against rocks and bumps in the ground.
Photo: This snake wraps its body around a branch to climb.

Time for New Skin
A snake grows, but the outer layer of its skin does not. So the snake sheds the old layer. It rubs its nose on a rock to loosen the skin. Then it crawls out.
